All but one of the 23 nominations received for the Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency were accepted after scrutiny on Monday.
Seventeen nominations submitted for Vadakara constituency were found to be valid and were accepted after scrutiny.
The scrutiny of applications was held at the District Collectorate by a team of poll officials led by District Collector C.A. Latha, who is also the District Election Officer; Election Commission Observers Ramankumar and Asokkumar Sanvaria; Deputy Collector P.V. Gangadharan; and the agents of candidates.
The nomination papers of Independent candidate P. Ramachandran Nair submitted for the Kozhikode Lok Sabha seat were rejected since his affidavit was not in order.
A clear picture of the election scene would emerge only at the end of the deadline for withdrawal of nominations. There is time till Wednesday for withdrawing nomination papers.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has clarified that clearance of district-level media certification and monitoring committee is not required for the advertisement campaigns of political parties and candidates through print media.
However, clearance is needed for advertisements through audio and visual media.
