As many as 10 persons suffered injuries when a private bus they were travelling in overturned near the Thondayad junction in the city on Thursday. The bus was on its way from Kozhikode Medical College to Narikkuni around 7 a.m.

The police said the bus overturned when the driver attempted to stop it all of a sudden on seeing the signal turning red at the busy junction.

“The tyre treads had worn off and the rain-soaked road made it impossible for the vehicle to gain effective traction,” they said.

Medical college authorities said the commuters suffered only minor injuries and they were discharged after administering first aid. Most of the injured were women and children, they said.

It was the second time that a bus overturned at the busy junction in a week. In the previous incident, around 30 people suffered injuries.
