The State Coordination Committee of government employees has written to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seeking an appointment to explain how the government employees have been discriminated over the years.
Nearly 11 lakh government employees, including teachers and panchayat employees, are receiving 42 per cent less dearness allowance (DA) compared to their Central government counterparts and employees in other States.
According to the members of the committee, the State government employees in the lower income bracket are receiving Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000 less every month . A memorandum explaining the situation was submitted to the Chief Minister’s office seeking an appointment on Friday.
The statement by the committee explained that in the lowest category (group D), the employees are receiving Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000 less whereas the group C and senior officials in various departments are receiving Rs. 6, 000 to Rs. 27,000 less every month.
“The outstanding DA is 42 per cent,” the statement said.
“Fifty-eight per cent of the DA has been cleared in the State, whereas in other States, 90 or 100 per cent has been cleared,” said Bijayshankar Sinha, associate secretary of the committee.
The committee has also provided a list of the States that provide 90 or 100 per cent of the allotted DA at State-level.
The committee has appealed to the Chief Minister to form ‘sixth pay commission’ in the State. While the Central government has formed the seventh pay commission, the State government is yet to put the sixth commission in place.
