A Trinamool Congress activist was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Katwa in Burdwan district late last night.

Morshed Seikh, brother of ward no 4 TMC councillor of Katwa Municipalty Jangal Seikh, was shot dead on way home by three-four unidentified miscreants, Additional SP (Rural) Prashanta Choudhury said.

Mr. Choudhury said the family of the deceased filed an FIR naming five persons in connection with the murder.

Meanwhile, in another development the family of one Chand Seikh, who was seen with Jangal sometimes before his death, lodged a complaint today that he too was missing after the shootout.

A member of Chand’s family told mediapersons he was also murdered by the assailants of Morshad and his body taken away.

The police, however, did not confirm Morshed’s companion was taken away or shot at.

The opposition Congress and CPI(M) said the murder was the fallout of TMC’s infighting but TMC said goons sheltered by opposition killed its activist.
