TMC women’s wing takes out rally against railway fare hike

June 28, 2014 12:15 pm | Updated 12:15 pm IST - KOLKATA:

Condemning the rail fare hike by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, the women’s wing of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) took out a rally in the city on Friday.

Chandrima Bhattacharya, president of the TMC’s women’s wing, urged the women of the State to come out in protest against the anti-people decision of the Centre.

“It is the women who run the kitchen of every family. They will face difficulties in view of the rail fare hike as it will result in the increase of prices of essential commodities,” said Ms. Bhattacharya, who is also the Minister of State for the Department of Health and Family welfare.

She said those who have to commute daily from the suburbs to Kolkata to earn their livelihood will have to bear the brunt. Earlier, students’ wing of the ruling party, Trinamool Chatra Parishad, also took out a protest march against the rail fare hike.
