The SUCI on Wednesday demanded immediate appointment of a full—time chairman of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission. The post fell vacant after former chairman Justice (Retd) Ashok Kumar Ganguly resigned following allegation of harassment of a law intern.

Raising the issue during mention hour in the Assembly, the lone SUCI (Socialist Unity Centre of India) member Tarun Kanti Naskar demanded a full bench of the rights panel.

He reminded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that the post of chairman of such an important body should not remain vacant for an indefinite period.

Mr. Naskar said that allegations were also there against Naparajit Mukherjee, former DGP and presently working as acting chairperson of WBHRC. —PTI
