At least 21 passengers were injured when a suburban hit a platform guard wall at Sealdah Station of Eastern Railway here on Wednesday.
The accident occurred at platform number 13 at Sealdah station at 10.20 am when UP Sonarpur Local rammed into the guard wall.
Since the train was travelling at a low speed a major accident was averted. Due to the impact, a few coaches of the suburban train derailed and came in contact with the coaches of another train standing on platform number 14.
Sixteen passengers have been admitted to B.R. Singh Railway hospital and five others at NRS Medical College and hospital.
The passengers said that they felt a major impact and were thrown away from their seats.
Train services has affected in the Sealdah South Suburban section has been disrupted because of the accident.
Senior Railways officials said that an inquiry has been ordered. “We are looking into why did this happen. (sic) Whether it was fault of the driver or the guard,” CPRO Eastern Railway R. N. Mahapatra said.
