SFI activists demonstrate during West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to Presidency University in Kolkata on Friday.

The stalemate at the Presidency University ended here on Saturday as the agitating students lifted the gherao of Vice-Chancellor Anuradha Lohia who was forced to stay inside the campus for 24 hours.

The protests fizzled out after the authorities remained firm on holding the convocation and majority of the students participated in the ceremony.

The students, however, said that they would continue their protest against the alleged police assault on students during Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to the varsity on Friday.
