One more held in Bardhaman blast

Zia-ul-Haque arrested from Malda district

One more person was arrested on Friday by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the blast at Khagragarh in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district on October 2, the NIA stated in a press release on Friday.

Zia-ul-Haque was arrested from Malda district. He is a close associate of absconding accused Rizaul Karim and Yusuf Sheikh alias Moulana Yusuf. With this the total number of arrests has gone up to five.

Investigation has revealed that Haque was closely associated with top Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh commanders, including Sajid, the head of Bardhaman and Sakib alias Suman, both of whom are absconding.

“The NIA team also conducted a raid at his house in Malda and recovered a laptop. This laptop was reportedly handed over to Haque by Karim after the Bardhaman blast. Further, forensic analysis of the laptop to cull out information contained therein is being carried out,” the NIA stated in a press release.

“Mr. Haque was part of the Jihadi training module where he was a key Jihadi motivator and would motivate the trainees in Jihadi ideology.

"He used to facilitate the training module by collecting Jihadi videos related to the Gujarat and Assam riots, killing of Rohingyas, etc. These video clips were then shown to trainees at Simulia and Mukhimnagar madrasas,” the release said.
