The Manipur University has abruptly terminated the service of a guest faculty for his alleged link with a political party.

MU Registrar W. Chandbabu Singh had on Tuesday served the order to Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, who was on June 26 appointed a guest faculty at the Department of Philosophy for six months. The termination of service was on the 46th day of his teaching at the university. Mr. Meitei declined to comment. Some academicians in Imphal said that he was hounded out for adhering to the Nehruvian ideology.

The Registrar’s order said Mr. Meitei’s service was terminated as he had failed to reply to queries whether he was a primary member and designated spokesperson of any political party. Mr. Meitei has been associated with the Congress in Manipur.
