Even as the cash-strapped All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) government is reportedly going to take a loan of Rs. 1,000 crore, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will embark on a three-day trip to Sunderbans in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Monday with the aim of giving a boost to the tourism industry.

According to a post on the AITC website, she will be accompanied by industrialists in the trip.

AITC district president in South 24 Parganas Sovan Chatterjee said, “I do not have the list of names of industrialists.” The post on the AITC website said: “The industrialists had been part of the delegation that went to Singapore with Ms Banerjee and accompanied her during her Gangasagar trip.”

Interestingly, Mr. Banerjee’s trip comes at a time when she has abstained from the meeting of Chief Ministers with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday to discuss the future of the Planning Commission.

Ms. Banerjee’s decision to skip the meeting has drawn severe criticism from Opposition parties in the backdrop of the State’s huge debt burden.
