Large parts of Malda district particularly the areas surrounding the Ratua block have remained submerged. The State highway connecting Ratua with Malda town remains submerged and the movement of heavy vehicles has been stopped. On Wednesday, two Ministers of the State government Javed Khan and Minister Golam Rabanni faced protests at Devipur in Ratua, when they wanted to take stock of the flood relief measures. Both the Ganga and the Phulhar rivers have breached embankments in the area.

According to rough estimates, over 2 lakh people have been affected in the floods in Malda. The Congress MLA of the district alleged political bias in the distribution of flood relief.
