: Former Supreme Court judge Asok Kumar Ganguly termed the change of government in West Bengal as “change for the worst”.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a meeting of Save Democracy Forum, a platform that works for democratic rights and peace in the State, Justice (Retd) Ganguly also questioned the State Government’s claims of ushering in development in Bengal.
Taking a dig at the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) government’s claim of bringing Bengal on the path of development, Justice Ganguly said, “Just painting the bridges and railings white does not mean development.”
He said that even in AITC there are people who care about democratic rights. “Attempts are being made to muzzle their voices,” he said. He accused the State police of not taking any action against AITC members.
Referring to the WBHRC for not having a permanent chairman since Justice Ganguly’s resignation, CPI (M) member Bikash Bhattacharya said that WBHRC has “has been rendered ineffective.”
