: Three months after a septuagenarian nun was raped inside a convent at Ranaghat in Nadia district, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal police on Monday submitted a charge sheet indicting five people including four Bangladeshi nationals.

The charge sheet was filed before the court of additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Nadia.

“Five accused have been charged under several sections including rape, dacoity and criminal conspiracy. This includes four Bangladeshi nationals,” Special Superintendent CID Chirantan Nag told The Hindu .

Mr Nag said that the investigations are proceeding on the right track and if required the CID will file a supplementary charge sheet naming rest of the accused.

The charge sheet comes 88 days after the case was handed over to the CID.

Earlier the State government had entrusted the CBI to take up the case but the agency could not take it up citing technical reasons.

So far six persons have been arrested in connection with the crime.

The CID is likely to file a supplementary charge sheet naming rest of the accused.

Last week the CID arrested Nazrul Islam, a Bangladeshi national one of the prime accused in the case.

In the early hours on March 14, a group of bandits broke into Convent of Jesus and Mary at Ranaghat in Nadia district, robbed the institution of some cash and sexually assaulted an elderly nun.
