Contractual, casual workers to work till 60: Mamata

The Cabinet also decides to hike their salaries, give them insurance cover

The Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal on Wednesday announced that the services of all contractual and casual departments will not terminated till they attain 60 years of age.

The decision which has been approved by a State Cabinet meeting held earlier in the day also includes hiking the salaries of contractual and casual departments and bringing them under the benefit of insurance.

The Cabinet also approved a paternity-cum-child care leave for all the State government employees for 30 days. The announcement comes ahead of the Assembly elections in the State scheduled later this year.

The State government also announced all government accredited journalists to be covered under the West Bengal Health Scheme for Journalists which will help them avail treatment in all State government hospitals and health centres. Family members and dependents of journalists will also be covered in the scheme.

A health insurance scheme for civic police volunteers, disaster management workers and green police volunteers was also announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Ms Banerjee also said that a Sanskrit college cum research centre would be set up at Nawadwip in Nadia district. The State government had earlier passed a legislation creating Sanskrit University in the city.
