Days after India and Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the prevention of smuggling and circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) between the two countries, the four-day conference of the two border guarding forces deliberated ways to implement the agreement.

“The smuggling of FICN, and the joint mechanism to prevent it was high on the agenda of the discussion,” a senior official of Border Security Force ( BSF) told The Hindu .

The MoU seeks “cooperation in the field of preventing and combating production, smuggling and circulation of fake currency notes through dialogue and interaction”.

The other issues that were discussed in the meeting include smuggling of gold and cattle across the border. They also agreed on “joint patrolling in vulnerable areas” along the international border.
