BJP denies ‘bonhomie’ with Trinamool

May 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - Kolkata:

A day after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee snubbed the media for its growing bonhomie with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State unit of the BJP blamed “a section of the media” for “speculating that there is a new bonhomie” between the two parties.

The BJP also blamed the Opposition for fuelling speculation that Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP were coming together. The Prime Minister will arrive in Kolkata on Saturday on a two-day tour of Bengal, first time since coming to power.

Criticising the media and the Opposition for speculating the nature of the relationship between the two parties, the BJP said the “good work” is not sufficiently highlighted.

“Unfortunately their (media and the opposition) focus is not on the immense benefit that the socially deprived people will get but in political masala,” during Mr Modi’s week-end visit, when he is scheduled to launch various social security schemes.

People’s welfare

The statement from the BJP’s media cell reiterated that the ‘continuing battle’ with the TMC will not be curbed but rather stepped up.

“Political battles will and ought to be fought with TMC but welfare of the people cannot be traded for political calculations. This is the new political path set out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the statement said.

However, the statement establishes that the Prime Minister has decided to add to the importance of the TMC.

“On behalf of Bengal BJP unit, we are honoured that the Honourable Prime Minister of India has selected Kolkata to launch the two universal social security schemes namely Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna.”

Additionally a monthly pension scheme for citizens over 60 years will also be launched. “…the way the schemes are designed will surely bring insurance to those who could not get insured, the poor deprived Indians,” the statement said.
