A day after the Calcutta High Court appointed special officers to ensure compliance of fire services and municipal rules for BJP president Amit Shah’s rally on Sunday, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and fire services gave nod to the rally.
As directed by the High Court, the special officers of KMC, fire services and the city police held a meeting with a team of the BJP at the venue of the rally in front of Victoria House in Esplanade.
Later, BJP office secretary Alok Guha Roy got no-objection certificates from the KMC and the fire services department. Party leader Ritesh Tewari said it was a victory of democracy and judicial system. “We wanted to build a 60 ft x30 ft stage, but the authorities insisted that the dais should be 30 ft x 32 ft,” he said.
