A city court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Srinjoy Bose arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI) in connection with the Saradha scam.
Mr. Bose was arrested by the CBI for his alleged complicity in the scam on November 20, 2014. The court has directed the Trinamool Congress leader not to leave the country without permission of the court and cooperate with CBI in connection with the probe.
“Since the detention period for the charges under which Mr. Bose has been booked is over. The court granted him bail,” an advocate associated with the Saradha case told The Hindu . Mr Bose has spent about 75 days in custody.
A prominent businessman, Mr, Bose had interest in cargo handling and media. He is the owner and the Editor of a hugely circulated Bengali daily, Sambad Pratidin .
He is the first senior Trinamool Congress leader to be granted bail in the Saradha scam. Trinamool Congress leader and Minister Madan Mitra and party leader and former Director General of Police, Rajat Majumdar are still behind bars in connection with the scam.
