Left and Congress question attitude of the govt

The first session of the West Bengal Assembly after the recently concluded Assembly polls will begin from Friday with the Left and the Congress questioning the attitude of the government towards the Opposition a day before the session begins.

Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly Biman Banerjee said that Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi will address the House on Friday, while State Finance Minister Amit Mitra will present the first budget of the second term of the Trinamool Congress government on June 24.

“After obituary references were made on June 20, a discussion would be held on the Governor’s address between June 21 and June 23 followed by placement of the budget proposals on June 24,” Mr Banerjee said. The session will continue till July 4.

After participating in all party meeting, Leader of the Opposition Abdul Mannan raised questions on the attitude of the West Bengal government towards the Opposition. Mr. Mannan said that the Opposition was keen on having a discussion on increase of prices of petroleum products and essential commodities; however, the government was not inclined to it. “Anything which an embarrassment to the BJP, this government does not want,” he added.

Keeping faith in Speaker Biman Banerjee, the Congress leader said that the Opposition will take a stand depending on what happens in the Business Advisory Committee meeting next week on June 22.

Leader of the Left Front legislature party Sujan Chakraborty said that a discussion on price rise is essential in the interest of people. Leaders of both the Congress and the Left have accused the government on not paying heed to the demands of the Opposition.
