June 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 16, 2016 10:35 am IST - Kolkata:

With effect from August 1, 2016, Metro services will be increased to 300.

The 22 new services will be inducted during the evening peak hours. At present there are 278 services between Dum Dum and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) stations.

The frequency of trains, which is 8 minutes during peak hours in the evenings, is expected to come down to 6 minutes.

The services between Dum Dum and Noapara have also been increased from 86 to 98 from Monday to Friday.

Senior PRO, Indrani Banerjee, added that 13 new rakes from Daliyan in China will be added to the Kolkata Metro starting from June next year. The coaches will have ultra-modern facilities.

Wi-Fi in stations

While at present Wi-Fi is available only at the Park Street and Maidan Metro Stations, the facility will be extended to the other 17 stations from Dum Dum to Tollygunge by June 15, 2016. In an effort to increase passenger amenities, mobile connectivity inside the tunnels is also expected to be provided before the Pujas this year in October.

Among other projects, Kolkata Metro has also installed drinking water facilities with Aquaguard at several stations, undertaken to increase the number of chairs on the platforms, and has provided soft-skill training with gender sensitisation to security staff.
