Various competitions for students marked World Book Day celebrations in Lions Club hall in Vazhappadi town near here on Saturday.

The celebrations were organised jointly by the Vazhappadi branch library Readers Circle and Lions Club of Vazhappadi.

Varadarajan, president of the branch library Readers Circle, presided over the event.

V. Madeswaran, District Library Officer, was the chief guest, and he underlined the importance of inculcating reading habit among the student community for their overall development. He called upon the youths of Vazhappadi and surrounding villages to take advantage of the books available in the government libraries for preparing for competitive examinations.

Many students of the Government Higher Secondary School participated in the competitions and Mr. Madeswaran, and M. Chandrasekaran, president of the Lions Club of Vazhappadi gave away prizes to the winners.

T. Tamilarasi, librarian of the Vazhappadi branch library, explained the objectives of the World Book Day, which she said was to motivate the younger generation towards books.
