A 43-year-old woman moneylender was murdered in Royapettah by three persons, including two women. The three were arrested by the Ice House police.

The suspects claimed that the moneylender had harassed them to repay loans. After the murder, the three accused, with help from a friend, carried the body in an autorickshaw to Madurantakam — 80 km from the city — and dumped it in a disused well.

The victim, Alphonsa Mary, lived at Begam Shahib Fourth Street and sold batter, besides lending money. On Monday, she left home to buy fish and did not return. Her husband complained to the Ice House police station.

On Wednesday, local residents found a huge sack in a disused well in Madurantakam. The police recovered the sack with a body and shared the information to police stations in the city.

The police found that the identity of the missing woman matched with the body. Investigation revealed that Alphonsa Mary had lent ₹20,000 to Valli and ₹60,000 to Manikandan at high interest rates.

Both of them were unable to repay the amount and she continued to harass them. Unable to bear this, they hatched a plan to kill her.
