Woman immolates herself before lover’s house

She was abused and assualted

A 21-year-old woman immolated herself in front of her lover’s house in Perumalpattu, Tiruvallur district as his brother prevented her from meeting him.

The police said, Priyadharshini, 21, of Veppampattu and Deepak, 23, of Perumalpattu have been romantically involved for more than two years. Recently, Deepak’s family prevented him from meeting her. Hoping to meet Deepak, Priyadharshini went to his home but was stopped and assaulted by his brother, Gowtham.

Frustrated over this, the woman set herself ablaze using some kerosene she had brought with her. The neighbours put out the fire and rushed her to a hospital. The Sevvapet police registered a case and arrested Gowtham on charges of assault, abuse and abetting suicide.
