Mother-son duo escape from spot after throwing the bomb

A 50-year-old woman and her son escaped after hurling a country bomb on a gang that attacked them near Casino theatre in Chintadripet on Thursday, the police said.

According to the police, Malarkodi, wife of Thottam Sekar, a historysheeter who was killed a few years ago, and her son Alagar Raj, 28, were returning in an auto after attending a court proceeding in Egmore.

At 12.30 p.m., they were waylaid by a gang of six who attacked them.

The duo hurled the country bomb and escaped from the spot, the police said.

Malarkodi surrendered before the Chintadripet police and Alagar Raj before the Triplicane police. They were admitted to the Government Royapettah Hospital for the injuries sustained during the attack.

The police booked cases against both sides and arrested two members of the gang — Aravind and Appun. Investigation is on.
