The St. Thomas Mount district police on Monday arrested a woman from Nanganallur on charges of stealing gold jewellery and other valuables from a house in the locality.

Police said it was reported on December 27 that 60 sovereigns of jewellery and 500 grams of silver articles were missing from a house on East Main Road. Investigators found that the locks had been opened with duplicate keys.

On pursuing the investigation, they found that Anuradha of AG’s Colony frequented the house on the pretext of enquiring about home tuitions.

On interrogation, she confessed to have committed the crime and police recovered 55 sovereigns of jewellery. The modus operandi of the woman was to befriend women and gain access to their homes. She would then steal jewellery and cash without arousing suspicion.

The police said she was also involved in the theft of 10 sovereigns of jewellery from a house in Hindu Colony, Nanganallur.
