‘We want more MTC services in our locality’

Now residents of Peravallur head to Perambur and Thiru Vi Kaa termini to board buses and reach various parts of the city

Residents of Peravallur, near Perambur, are disappointed with the number of bus services being operated from their locality to other parts of the city. Even the two services that are operated from there lack frequency, these residents complain. They want more bus services and they particularly want them to be operated to Tambaram, Mylapore, Adyar, Foreshore Estate, Porur, Sholinganallur and Velachery.

Every day, hundreds of residents from Peravallur go to Kodungaiyur, Sembium, Kolathur, Madhavaram, Perambur, Manali, Purasawalkam, Vysarpadi, Vinayakapuram and Vepery for work.

At present, residents go to the two bus termini – Thiru Vi Kaa and Perambur – to board buses. Many residents take a train from Perambur Loco Works railway station to Central railway station and then board buses from there. “As there are no direct bus services, we spend more than two hours commuting and change two or three buses or trains to reach our workplaces.

Due to an inadequate number of shareautorickshaws in the locality, we are forced to take autorickshaws to reach the nearest bus terminus,” says B. Ambika, a resident of Peravallur. At present, residents of Peravallur prefer going to the Perambur bus terminus as the majority of the buses originating from Thiru Vi Kaa Nagar terminus cover only the northern and western parts of the city, including Anna Nagar, Kolathur, Red Hills, Madhavaram and Ennore. They also want small buses introduced for them to access nearby areas which include Kolathur (3km), Moolaikadai (3km), Madhavaram (6km), Sembium (2km), Doveton (3km) and Periyar Nagar (3km). “Steps will be taken soon to increase the number of bus services,” says an MTC official.
