November 17, 2013 08:03 am | Updated May 26, 2016 06:53 am IST - CHENNAI:

Six labourers were injured in the wall collapse that claimed the life of six others in Chinnapuliyur village in Tiruvallur district. They are currently undergoing treatment at various government and private hospitals. Police sources said that the six workers who died on Saturday after the wall collapsed on their huts were labourers working at a plastics factory that was under construction.

Kavarappettai policemen told The Hindu that the workers, who were in their huts, were preparing food when the wall collapsed all of a sudden around 8 p.m. They died before any help could reach the spot. All of the victims were reportedly between 20 and 35 years of age.

The names of the victims were not available as the investigators were unable to communicate properly with other workers at the spot. Policemen said the compound wall, made of hollow bricks, was not firmly built and hence, gave way when it rained heavily for most part of Saturday.
