VHS chosen for 14th Mahaveer awards

Voluntary Health Services, Chennai, has been chosen for the 14th Mahaveer awards, which are given by Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation.

A release issued by N.Sugalchand Jain, the Foundation's managing trustee, said that the VHS was chosen in the category of excellence in medicine.

Others chosen for the award are: The Indian Planetary Society, Mumbai, for excellence in education; Snehalaya Social Charitable Trust, Maharashtra, for social service; and Dayananda Swami based in Bangalore for his contribution towards non-violence and vegetarianism.

The recipients would receive a cash prize of Rs.10 lakh each.

The awardees were chosen from 350 nominations, which were received from all over the country.

The Foundation has given 35 such awards so far, according to the release.
