Vandalur gets striped hyenas in swap with Mysuru zoo

After three weeks of monitoring, they can be viewed by the public

The Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur will soon put on display two pairs of striped hyenas, a pair of Lady Amherst pheasants, golden pheasant, and Sarus crane.

These animals and birds landed in Vandalur on Wednesday amidst tight security and medical care from Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Garden (SCZG), Mysuru.

Apart from these birds and animals, a male Indian Gaur, a pair each of black swans and Eclectus Parrots were brought in as part of the animal exchange programme. In turn, a pair of white tigers, one Indian Gaur, one (male) lion-tailed macaque, and a pair of Nilgiri langurs were sent to Mysuru zoo, according to zoo officials at Vandalur. The official added that the animals received in exchange from Mysuru zoo have been quarantined and kept under medical care.

“The veterinarians are continuously monitoring these animals and birds. They may be a little nervous and restless after they were shifted from their location. After three weeks of monitoring, the animals will be placed for public view," he said.

Rhino soon

A rhino would be brought from Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Park in Patna, for which paper work were over.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami during his recent visit had assured the officials that the animal was expected within a month.
