A mother and son were killed in a road accident near Tirtiruttani after the car they were travelling in rammed a side wall on Monday. Two members of the family including a young girl escaped with injuries.
The car was driven by Vijayakumar (45), an engineer and a resident of Adambakkam.
His wife Jayabharati (41), who was seated in front seat, died on the spot. The couple’s teenage son Saravana Kumar (15) and daughter Anushri (11), who were in the rear seat, suffered injuries. Kumar succumbed to his injuries enroute to a hospital while Anushri and father Vijayakumar escaped.
The family members were returning from a pilgrimage to Tirupathi.
