A special court here on Friday convicted two persons and sentenced them to 10 years rigorous imprisonment in a drug trafficking case registered in 2012 by the Directorate Revenue Intelligence.

The DRI officers had arrested the accused Sivanesan of Velankanni, Nagapatinam district and Fahim of Uttar Pradesh in the early hours on October 28, 2012. Fahim travelled by train from Mumbai to hand over 4.08 kg contraband to Sivanesan. The officers caught the duo in a suburban railway station while Fahim handed over the drugs to Sivanesan.

Immediately after their arrest, the officers raided the residence of Sivanesan in Velankanni and recovered 2 kg contraband from there. Both Sivanesan and Fahim were remanded in judicial custody for offences under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.

At the conclusion of trial, the special judge held the duo guilty and sentenced them to 10 years rigorous imprisonment besides imposing fine ₹ one lakh each.
