The Triplicane police on Thursday arrested Indian National League president Abdul Rahim alias Tada Rahim and Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi member Akram Khan in connection with their alleged inflammatory speech at a public meeting in Chepauk on May 3.

According to the city police, they addressed a gathering near the State guesthouse and spoke in a manner “promoting enmity between people of different religions and creating fear among the general public.”

Following a probe by the Triplicane police, the two were arrested early on Thursday. They were remanded in judicial custody and sent to Puzhal prison later in the day, police added.
