The Ambattur police on Saturday arrested two persons for cheating car owners in the city.

The police said the complainant, Sekar, 33, of Madampakkam, who is a temple priest, was approached by Sudharsanam, 34, of Ambattur, to let out his car on a rental basis. Sudharsanam claimed he was running a call-taxi firm with friends and required more cars to rent out. He promised high returns and Sekar entered into an agreement with him.

Though Sudharsanam paid him the amount for a few months, he later stopped paying and refused to return the car.

On a complaint from Sekar, the Ambattur police arrested Sudharsanam and his associate Edwinraj, 31, of Ambattur. Interrogation revealed that they had cheated a few others as well.

The police seized 12 cars from the accused and are searching for another member of the gang, Suresh, who is absconding.
