Four months after the first service of Chennai Metro Rail between Koyambedu and Alandur was launched, the trial run for the stretch between Little Mount and Officers’ Training Academy is likely to begin this week.

According to officials of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the trials may be launched on Friday or Saturday.

“The track work was completed long ago and the electrification was also done sometime ago.

“Now that the rest of the works are also over, we can start the trial runs,” an official said.

This trial run was scheduled to take place in the last week of September but was postponed.

Officials are also planning to start the trial run between Officers’ Training Academy and Chennai airport in November and then, between Alandur and St. Thomas Mount in December.

Work completed

“The track work and electrification have to be completed before we start work,” the official added.

The State government has said the stretch between Chennai Airport and Little Mount will be commissioned by March 2016. CMRL officials also want to commission the stretch between Alandur and St. Thomas Mount by then. All these trials are expected to continue till March 2016. The construction of the stations along these three stretches is also in progress and officials noted that it may be finished before March 2016.
