For morning walkers on Dr. Ambedkar Road in ICF, the change is striking. M. Ravinkanthan, a resident of Parasurama Easwaran Koil Street, Ayanavaram, is one of them. He says, “Earlier, the pavements on Dr. Ambedkar Road were uneven and people preferred to walk on the carriageway. Now, with the footpath having been redesigned and re-laid by the ICF management, pedestrians have nothing to complain about.”

The improvement of Dr. Ambedkar Road, which leads to the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Perambur, is part of civic-improvement initiatives undertaken at the ICF in recent times.

The entire ICF campus, consisting of a factory, a lake, playgrounds, housing quarters and a network of interior roads, has undergone a makeover.

The work has included laying new roads, installation of speedbreakers and reflectors and tiled footpaths and replacement of old streetlights with LED lights. In a massive effort, the ICF lake was also restored.

ICF residents are waiting for work on a modern shopping complex near the ICF bus terminus to be completed. The shopping complex is expected to have 20 shops.

The ICF management has also taken steps to renovate the old housing quarters of employees and has installed closed circuit television cameras in the four residential quarters.
