T.N. reports 1,051 fresh cases of COVID-19, logs seven deaths

The number of active cases fell below 20,000 in the State even as overall positivity rate stood at 1.3%

A total of 1,051 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Of the 38 districts, only Chennai and Coimbatore reported over a 100 cases each.

In Chennai, 238 persons tested positive for COVID-19, while in Coimbatore, the daily tally dipped to 157. The number of daily cases fell below 100 in Chengalpattu as 96 persons tested positive for the infection. There were 55 cases in Erode, while Tiruppur and Tiruvallur logged 46 and 41 cases respectively.

A total of 13 districts logged fresh cases in single digits, with Mayiladuthurai reporting a single case. The State has so far recorded 34,43,980 COVID-19 cases.

Another 3,561 persons were discharged after treatment in the State. The total recoveries stood at 33,87,839. The State reported seven deaths, taking the toll to 37,977. Of this, there were three deaths in Chennai and two in Coimbatore. Thanjavur and Tiruvallur reported one death each.

The number of active cases fell below 20,000 in the State. Presently, there were 18,164 persons under treatment in the State. Of these, Chennai had 3,329 active cases followed by Coimbatore (2,772).

Another 82,053 samples were tested in the State, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 6,38,10,146. The State's overall positivity rate stood at 1.3%.

Vaccine update

A total of 48,739 persons were vaccinated across the State on Saturday. This included 26,138 persons aged 18 to 44 years and 11,465 persons aged 45 to 59 years. With this, the coverage of government vaccination centres so far reached 9,58,80,273. So far, 5,41,479 precaution doses were administered in the State, according to the daily report issued by the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
