Personnel of the Tamil Nadu Police Equestrian Team won three gold and two silver medals and one bronze medal at the recently held 40th All India Police Equestrian Championship and Mounted Police Duty Meet.

From March 31 to April 11, the event was conducted in Haryana, in which 18 teams from the Central Armed Police Forces and the State Police participated. Around 300 horses and 600 riders took part in the multiple competitions over the course of two weeks.

Grade-I police constable Manikandan bagged a gold medal and the DGP Rajasthan Trophy in the Show Jumping - Preliminary Normal category and also got another gold medal and the Jaipur Challenge Trophy in the Show Jumping - Preliminary Fault and Out.

Woman police constable Suganya bagged a gold medal and the Chief Minister Bihar Trophy in the Women Hacks category and also received the Woman Best Rider Trophy. Mr. Manikandan also got a silver medal in Show Jumping - Novice Normal category.

Farrier Tamilmani got a silver medal in the farrier competition. Similarly, Mr. Manikandan got the bronze medal and constable Mageshwaran secured the fourth position in the police horse test. The team was led by Deshmukh Shekhar Sanjay, Superintendent of Police/Commandant of VI Battalion, Tamil Nadu Special Police.

“ With many challenges and limitations, the equestrian team started working hard to perform better. This was only the second time the Tamil Nadu Police Equestrian Team participated in this event. There are teams which have been taking part in this competition for the last 30 to 40 years. However, our team won many medals and stood fourth in the overall medal tally,” a senior police officer said.

Chennai City Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal personally appreciated the team for their achievement.
