The State government on Friday announced that each of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) candidates allotted centres in other States would get a travel allowance of ₹1,000, and he or she as well as an accompanying person would be supported with second-class return rail tickets.

Students can either avail the assistance from the respective Chief Educational Officer (CEO) through the Head Master of his/her school in advance or can get the assistance by producing necessary documents on their return from the exam. “Those who get the assistance in advance shall produce necessary receipts to the respective CEO on their return,” Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced in a statement.

Toll free number

The ticket assistance would be granted on producing a copy of the student’s NEET admit card and the school identity card.

In case of any difficulty in getting the assistance, the respective CEO or the School Education Department’s toll free number 14417 can be contacted, the statement added.

Earlier in the day, eight students from Tamil Nadu, who won medals and a shield in Kala Utsav - 2017, an initiative of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), called on the Chief Minister at the Secretariat. Mr. Palaniswami handed over cheques of ₹5,000 to each of the students.

School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan, School Education Secretary Pradeep Yadav and senior officials were present.
