Two women who died in the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai in the past three days had tested positive for swine flu.

At least four persons who have tested positive for swine flu and two more with symptoms of the disease are presently undergoing treatment at an isolation ward in the hospital.

While officials have confirmed that the death of Meenakshi, 40, of Pykara, was due to H1N1 infection, they said the other patient, R. Veerammal, 70, of Karumbalai, who died on Saturday night, had tested negative for the virus.

However, Veerammal’s family have alleged negligence, adding that a test she had undertaken at a private hospital had come back positive for H1N1 infection.

D. Maruthupandian, Dean, GRH, refuted the allegations and claimed that Veerammal had tested negative for H1N1 infection.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman died of swine flu at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in Puducherry on Sunday.
