• Maria Irudayam is who Dhanush partly reflects as Anbu in Vetri Maaran’s Vada Chennai , a film that split opinions and brought out strong emotions from many North Chennai residents. Irudayam also trained Dhanush to play carrom for the movie — travelling from Periamet to the actor’s residence down south to help him improve his technique over six months. For his efforts, he was acknowledged in the film’s credits. “It was an encouragement that the sport was portrayed in the film. The message that it brought across was that there is a brighter future if kids took up carrom as well. That’s what Ameer’s character tells the children... there is a future if you win,” he says.
