S. Ramanathan of Acharya Apartments at Fourth Cross Street, R. A. Puram, installed a rainwater harvesting (RWH) pit on the premises of the apartment complex a decade ago, and the initiative has paid rich dividends.
Residents say that largely due to the decade-old RWH pit and a long-existing well, they have not faced any water scaricity.
S. Ramanathan, says, “The RWH pit has been sunk to a depth of 20 feet. Pebbles have been placed up to a height of four feet for cleansing the rainwater. Through pipes installed on all sides of the terrace, rainwater drains into the pit. An underground pipe connects the pit to the well, which is 35 feet deep," he says. Rs. 1,000 annually.
