In a daring robbery attempt in Karambakkam near Porur on Monday evening, two unidentified men followed a 74-year-old man to his residence and robbed his bag containing Rs. 50,000.

Police sources said the victim, Unni Krishnan, a retired State transport corporation employee, withdrew the money from an ATM around 6 p.m. and was walking home after placing the cash in his bag. The two culprits on a motorcycle followed Unni and, enroute, they threw a powder that induces a burning sensation in order to distract him and rob the bag containing the cash.

However, the elderly man evaded them and rushed home with the bag. The two thieves tailed Unni to his house. They then barged in and grabbed the cash bag. They rushed out and fled on their motorcycle. Following a police complaint by Unni Krishnan, a probe is on.
