In commercial areas, motorists and residents are generally put to severe hardship owing shoppers thronging the area. Most of the time, commercial establishments in such places would have inadequate parking space and the shoppers would park their vehicles on the road, causing severe traffic snarls.
There are, however, a few establishments in some commercial hubs of the city that have created automated parking lots for the shoppers.
A few commercial houses —largely textile showrooms and department stores — have done so at Purasawalkam, Vadapalani and Chromepet. By operating a parking lot, the showroom helps customers shop without the nagging worry of their vehicles being impounded by the traffic police, say some shoppers.
While Saravana Stores at Purasawalkam and Chromepet has an automated parking lot, Big Bazaar, which operates a big department store, located on the busy Arcot Road at Vadapalani, also maintains a parking lot for customers.
The advantage of shopping at these showrooms is that the parking fee would be reimbursed or deducted at the time of billing in the showroom.
