The Hindu has once again proved Chennai to be its stronghold, testifies the latest report of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) for the third quarter of 2012. The Hindu maintains a commanding average issue readership of 5.24 lakh in the metro, far more than all the other English dailies put together. In Chennai, The Hindu ’s readership is 2.4 times that of The Times of India .
With a readership of 10.97 lakh, The Hindu is far ahead of competitors and has maintained its lead in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. This proves the region’s continued preference for the daily.
The Hindu has gained 89,000 readers, marking a growth of 4.1 per cent in national readership as compared to the corresponding quarter in the previous year. The publication’s current Average Issue Readership (AIR) is 22.58 lakh.
Once again, The Hindu thus retains its position as the most-read English daily in South India and as the third largest English newspaper nationally.
