Tax appeals to be disposed off faster

November 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

Chennai Corporation will be speeding up the disposal of property tax appeals made by city residents. Following the rise in the number of assessees whose water and sewerage taxes are pending due to non-disposal of property tax appeals, the Metrowater has requested Chennai Corporation to settle the appeal issues on a priority basis.

A number of objections have been made against the provisional orders of assessment of property tax this year also. At least 300 assessees have already been called by Chennai Corporation for enquiry. Metrowater has sent a list of assessees to Corporation. At least 60 such assessees in Royapuram, 120 in Teynampet, 30 in Kodambakkam and 40 in Adyar have been called for enquiry, officials said. — Staff Reporter
