Tangedco awards dam contracts to 3 firms


Switzerland-based company awarded ₹34.69 crore work for the Upper Bhavani dam

Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has awarded a contract worth ₹43.14 crore to three firms under the World Bank-funded Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP).

Switzerland-based Carpi Tech.B.V. has been awarded ₹34.69 crore work for the Upper Bhavani dam. Some of the works under the 18-month contract include dewatering and removing silt deposited on the upstream side of the dam.

The Tangedco also awarded a ₹6.41 crore contract to JK Constructions in Upper Bhavani Dam (Package-I) for 18 months.

The project includes civil, mechanical and electrical works.

Vakma USA Infra has been awarded ₹2.05 crore contract for dam rehabilitation and improvement work in Porthimund Dam (Additional works in Package – I). The 12-month contract includes works such as electrification to dam.

The DRIP project aims to improve safety and operational performance of 198 Dams across the country.

The cost of 20 dams to be covered by Tangedco remains unchanged at ₹260 crore, while the cost of 69 dams to be covered by Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department has been revised to ₹543 crore from ₹486 crore.

Initially, the project period was from 2012 to 2018. The World Bank has revised the closure date of the project to 30 June, 2020.
