As part of the precautionary measures taken towards the Northeast monsoon in the State, the State government has identified a total of 30,759 first responders, including 9,162 women across various parts of the State, who could be involved in relief operations.

Addressing reporters here, Revenue Minister R.B. Udhayakumar said a total of 4,399 places had been identified as vulnerable areas, including 578 extremely vulnerable. About 660 inter-departmental governmental committees have been formed. Over 7,200 new check dams had been constructed and a total of 55,62,386 houses identified to have rainwater harvesting facilities in them, he said.

Under the State government desilting programme, 30,046 water bodies were desilted and over 6.35 lakh farmers across the State benefited under the scheme, Mr. Udhayakumar said.

The Commission of Revenue Administration has instructed District Collectors to identify individuals, who can rescue cattle in affected areas, before October 5.
