February 27, 2012 01:51 am | Updated 01:51 am IST - CHENNAI:

The body of Sujay Kumar Rai alias Vinod Kumar, the kingpin in the bank robberies in the city who was shot dead by police on Thursday, was sent to his home in Patna, Bihar, by a scheduled flight on Sunday morning from Chennai.

Airport sources said that originally it was planned to shift the body on Saturday night. But, the embalming process took longer at Sri Ramachandra Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Porur.

Moreover, the Magistrate wanted to verify whether the parents who claimed to be that of the deceased were genuine.

When this doubt was raised, the body was sent back to the hospital. Later on Sunday morning, after all doubts were cleared, the body was loaded on to a Bangalore-bound, scheduled flight and from there it was sent to Patna, airport sources added.
