The Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department - has issued summons to DMK MP S. Jagathrakshakan in connection with a land grabbing case which was registered in 2016 following an order of the Madras High Court.

Sources said the land in dispute was originally owned by Chrome Leather Company in which Mr. Jagathrakshakan was the chairman. The land belonging to the company was acquired in 1982, by the then AIADMK government led by M.G. Ramachandran under the Tamil Nadu Urban Land Ceiling & Regulation Act. The Chief Minister laid foundation stone in 1984 for using the land for water resources. However, Mr. Jagathrakshakan illegally moved the foundation stone when he was an MP besides recommending to the competent authority to allot the land to 41 people who were related to him and employees of his firm and a school run by him.

The case was registered by CB CID following direction of the Madras High Court which disposed of a public interest litigation seeking to cancel orders assigning 1.55 acres of public land in Pallavaram to 41 people.
